Desperate 911 calls show family and friends trying to save the life of an 11-year-old Marathon County girl. Investigators say the young girl died after her parents tried to use prayer to treat her diabetes.
The first call came from across the country, asking for help to save a little girl.

Aunt: My sister in law, she's very religious. She believes in faith instead of doctors. She called my mother-in-law today, and we're all in California. And she explained to us that she believes her daughter's in a coma now, and she relied on faith to…
911 Operator: So the person that's in a coma is not in a hospital, she's at home?
Aunt: She's at home, and she's 11. So we don't know, she told us she believes she's in a coma.

Just three minutes later, investigators say a call came from inside Madeline Neumann’s home.
-------------
911 Operator: Okay. You need to just calm down and breathe, okay?
Female: Okay.
911 Operator: Now just feel by her nose and see if she's breathing
Female: Okay. Is she breathing? Is she breathing? Is she breathing?
Male: No.
Female: No she's not.

Police and paramedics were at the home within minutes... But say it was too late.
"My understanding is the mother still believed she could be revived even after she passed away which isn't the case," says Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin.
Madeline's mother Leilani says she and her husband, a former police officer, are remaining strong for their other children. Madeline was the youngest of four. They say they have nothing against doctors and are not fanatics. They said they saw signs of recovery.
Chief Vergin says the death investigation should be complete by Friday; from there it will go to the district attorney for review.
Former Supreme Court Justice Janine Geske says a possible criminal charge in the case could be second-degree reckless homicide. But, she also says Wisconsin law says a parent cannot be accused of abuse or neglect of a child, if in good faith they selected prayer as a basis of treatment for a disease.
