La Crosse firefighters win top honors at the Wisconsin Firefighters Combat Challenge.
Fire fighters Jim Hillcoat, Jesse Walters, Nick Meinertz, Todd English and Blane Neher made up the five man team that won the state title. All five competitors had to complete tasks like carrying gear up five flights of stairs and carrying a 175 lb. dummy.
Fire chief Gregg Cleveland says his firefighters work hard to stay in shape.
"We have a regular routine that's built into the day for those people to work out and exercise because that's so important for a firefighter to stay in shape.”
Cleveland says the La Crosse fire department plans on competing again in next year's event.
