From Hawaii to right here in Wisconsin, people ages 5 to 19 busted out their best Judo skills today.

Organizers say the tournament is one of the largest for young athletes in the United States.

Winners from this weekend will go on to compete in the Senior National Competition. Those winners have to potential to be on the U.S. Olympic team.

Eddie Liddie was in 1984 and he took home a bronze medal.

Now he's the Director of High Performance for athletes and coaches in the U.S.

He says judo is good for kids to learn, not only for the self defense, but also for the social skills.

"It teaches them about winning and losing and training for something and focusing in and having a goal. Cause I'm sure all of these kids have a goal to come here and win,” he said.

Between 400 and 500 competitors registered for the tournament.
