SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) -- Dane County authorities say the deputy who was struck by a fleeing vehicle on Friday is Dale Veto, a 16-year veteran of the sheriff's office.
The department says Veto hurt his right leg and is facing a number of medical procedures in the coming days. He's also expected to remain in the hospital indefinitely for the injury, which is being called significant but not life-threatening.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Elise Schaffer says Veto was placing spikes in the road to stop the vehicle when the 15-year-old driver swerved and struck him.
A chase then led onto the interstate, and the teen was eventually arrested.
The car was believed to have been stolen.
