You are not paying attention while driving, you are going too fast as you are approaching police lights and you hit and kill a Trooper and you are issued a Citation! Unbelievable.Attorney Mike Bitney , this is patethic.
I have a suspicion that if this had been a 21 year old male he would be facing charges. Erica Kressin should be.
That night I was on my way home and seen the lights from the squads a mile away from where the accident occurred. I think that is more than sufficient time to slow down so you can see what is going on in front of you. Keeping that in mind, they should have at least pressed charges and offered her a plea to tell her story with q/a in drivers ed. classes for the next ten years at every school within a 50 mile radius. The dumbest part is that it will happen again. Two days after this accident when the State Patrol was investigating. They had signs two miles away, and a dump truck with a flashing arrow warning people of what was ahead. You would think that would have been enough to get peoples attention, but some young girl in a blue Impala talking on her cell phone went to pass me (because I did slow down) and almost got into the Trooper’s SUV on the side of the road with it’s lights on. Makes you wonder what they would have to do to get our attention, and more so respect for life.
Is that all next time something like this happens just slap there hand and tell them to drive better next time. I really think she should have the book thrown at her. See should of have seen the lights and slowed down. Common sense says you see a cop, and up a head you can see the flames from a fire and all kinda of other flashing lights why wouldnt you slow down and start paying attention. This is sad.
Thats the right message to send!! 2 citations for taking the life of a hard working officer. The LED lights are supposed to be bright so you can switch lanes and give the officer adequete room to work. Thus, avoiding an accident. Negligence, no more like stupidity!!
Move over, and slow down enough so you can see. If there is a police/fire/EMS vehicle by the side of the road, there are likely to be LEO/FF/EMT's there too. Not to mention if they are there, there might be a hazard in the road, that can damage your car if you hit it. MOVE OVER.
I think its totally outrageous that crimminal charges were not filed against this woman. She took a cops life! Last time i checked when you saw the flashing red and blue lights you SLOWED DOWN and MOVED OVER! Hopefully the family files a civil suit or something since the "special" prosecuter couldn't do his job!
Its too bad and sad for these situations to happen! For both families on both parties. Now this young 21yr old has to live with this for the rest of her life, knowing she accidently killed a deputy sheriff from the police dept. Also, for the family on Deputy Zunkers side. That was her only son! My prayers go out to both families for the tragic accident, and hopefully things WILL be done or improved with night time highway incidents to prevent things like this from happening again...
I think the police should re-evaluate the new LED red and blue lights. They are so bright that they are distracting and disorienting.
Hopefully Ms. Kressin learned from this. We will always remember Jason. Rest in peace 471!
