La Crosse Bartenders No Longer Allowed To Drink On The Job

A new ordinance in La Crosse prohibits bartenders from drinking on the job.

The sober server law allows bartenders to drink on a break, but they can't exceed the .08 blood alcohol level if they're working.

Nighthawks tavern owner Chris Rasmussen says apparently the city thinks bar owners can't supervise their own employees.

But the co-chairman of the city's Alcohol Oversight Committee, Rose Mary Boesen, says the sober server ordinance is just one way of helping change the culture of binge drinking in La Crosse.

Doc Powell's bartender Aaron Thompson says servers should be allowed to have a casual drink with a customer because it's a very social business.

The fine for bartenders and tavern owners in violation is 75 dollars.
