When tragedy hits, university leaders say it effects the entire campus.
"It's a shock of a campus this size to lose three fine young people and we grieve that deeply,” said UW-Stout Chancellor Charles Sorenson.
The Director of UW-Stout's counseling center says sad moments like these require support and organization.
"We try to be a caring presence for students just to let them know that we have a place where they can come and talk,” said John Achter.
He says that's why the University has set up counseling services for students and staff.
But, Dean of Students Joan Thomas says there's even more behind-the-scenes planning that has to be done.
"The first thing that happens is we bring our crisis response team together,” she said.
Thomas says this team, made up of school and community leaders, decides how its going to inform everyone and then how to help them get through it.
The Dean of Students says it's not only important to support students now, just after the incident, but also in the months to come and through out the entire grieving process.”
"We know that right now sometimes students don't realize what they're going to need, so we have to put in that long-term range plan, too,” said Thomas.
Thomas says the critical response team also plans how the victims will be honored.
"First of all we want to make sure that we are honoring the wishes of the family,” she says.
She says the group considers memorial services, candle light vigils and moments of silence -anything they can to remember the ones lost and comfort those still here.
"We try to involve everybody on whatever level we can so that students know that we care about them and want to be helpful,” said Achter.
To honor Saturday’s fire victims, UW-Stout will toll its bells Monday morning at 11:10.
The ringing will then be followed by a moment of silence.
