There is a petition to the federal government from telemarketing firms to allow the state list to apply only to companies within Wisconsin.
"What that means is that anybody from any of the 49 states or wherever can call us in Wisconsin and our no call, we can't do anything about it," says Cindy White.
The department wants support from consumers to keep the list strict, since they estimate 80 percent of residents are on the list.
To comment, residents can either write a letter and have Consumer Protection send it to the federal government or submit comments on the internet. The address or email form can be found at www.wisconsin.gov, under the news and highlights section.
