THIS SHORTENED SCHOOL DAY IS CRAZY! If the faculty is meeting at CFMS for an hour to collaborate, how much time will they spend "getting ready" to sit down and get something done and then realize they need to get to school! They will need drive time to get to their respective schools on time and that could vary w/the weather causing unneccessary late starts at select schools because of distance. It seems to me that it would be in the best interest of the community to meet after school and extend already needed after school daycare by an hour instead of adding an hour of needed daycare in the morning to the already existing afternoon daycare. W/the late start there will be many more families schedules disrupted for a handful of staff. I actually think that staff should meet after school hours. It's ONE hour twice a month - come on! I believe the survey was a formality and the decision was made BEFORE the survey came home! Everyone knows nothing happens that fast in our district!
I am not sure why you were offended by the term educator, unless it was my quotes around them and re-reading my comment, I don't see where I implied laziness. As far as I know, you and your fellow workers don't individually make the rules but are part of a union that does influence the scheduling. You as an individual should be proud of your work ethic but should also do your best to make sure that classroom time is maximized. Team meetings seem like something that could be accomplished outside of class hours. As unfair as it may seem to you as an individual, union members will always be generalized upon. Try influencing your co-workers to do more out of classroom work if you want to improve parent's perception of you, until more of you step up, you will always be facing this negative perception of the educational system. Trust me, I am not the only parent that is disappointed with the direction many school districts are headed.
This "educator" as you call me does put in way more than 40 hours a week. I come in an hour before I am required to be and stay 1-2 hours past my required time each evening. Not all teachers are lazy as you seem to believe. Please do not generalize about an entire group of people and be disrespectful that way.
There is no reason the teachers can not stay after the students go home. I already pay for afterschool care. The school board members can pay for the care in the morning!! It was easier to have the full days off, but the best solution is for the teachers to stay after. The school board needs to reconsider their quick approval of such nonsense.
Why is it that these "educators" can't get anything done without cutting into classroom time. Is there something wrong with coming in early or staying late to do their jobs. My kids are not in that school district, but every year I am shocked at the number of early outs, late starts and just plain uncalled for days off. Most work 10 months a year so they should be working 50 hours a week if need be.
