The Chippewa Valley Chapter of the Red Cross says so far, $450,000 have been donated to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina.
With Hurricane Rita expected to hit this weekend, Red Cross officials expect area residents will continue to step up to provide support.
"Hurricane Katrina, as a stand alone disaster, we're looking at months that we're going to be responding to this and a lot of work that still needed to be done, so I don't know that there's a lot of resources that we're currently using for Hurricane Katrina that can really be transferred over to Texas," says Jon Lee, the emergency services director for the Chippewa Valley Chapter of the Red Cross.
Lee says that of the 30 volunteers that have been sent to the region affected by Katrina, half were trained within the past few weeks.
Those interested in volunteer training can contact the Red Cross.
