Study Says Eau Claire Has Outgrown the County's Facility

Because of overcrowding of the county jail, Eau Claire is currently paying about $40 per day per inmate to Chippewa County's jail to have inmates housed there.
Of the 130 inmates in the facility Wednesday, about a third of them were from Eau Claire County.

Officials are reviewing a survey that evaluated the Eau Claire County facility that acknowledges that space has reached a critical level.

"At some point, the council and board members need to make a decision about what they want to see in the future for our operations, law enforcement, jail, courts and the whole of the facility itself," says Tom McCarty.

Next month, Eau Claire county officials will hold input sessions around the county to get reaction about survey's results.
