Governor Doyle has asked federal officials to extend the deadline for Wisconsinites to submit comments on a petition he says would devastate the state's telemarketer do-not-call list.
Doyle made the request after a Web site set up by the Federal Communications Commission to receive comments crashed for about three hours last week.
A coalition of telemarketing firms and nonprofit corporations submitted the petition to the F-C-C in April asking the commission to bar state regulation of telemarketing.
The coalition says federal no-call regulations take precedence.
The 30-day public comment period on the petition was scheduled to end at midnight last Friday. Doyle asked FCC chairman Kevin Martin to extend the public comment period through Monday.
The FCC had not responded by late Friday afternoon.
