In just two days, the City of Marshfield will be smoke-free. The ban just passed a referendum vote on April 1.
The Marshfield police chief says they will be enforcing the rule Sunday morning, but not until establishments re-open Sunday. With the new smoking ban soon to be in effect business owners worry how this will affect them.
Chief Joe Stroik also says they will allow time for the community to get used to the new city ordinance before they start issuing tickets.
Chief Stroik says, "Obviously if there are four walls and a roof that is indoors, now if there's three walls and a roof and a portion is wide open for open air. I've been lead to believe by our common council that is outdoors."
Eau Claire's smoking ban starts July 1. So far, six cities have passed smoking bans for public places.
