We're all now in the home improvement season in Wisconsin.

A city program is trying to help some in La Crosse to fix up their homes for free.

The fix-up program aims to help people in parts of the Poweol Hood Hamilton neighborhood restore their homes for free.

The city is offering up to $800 to any qualified home owner for basic repairs and paint.

The program isn't just aimed at helping single family homes either, if you own rental property in this neighborhood you could receive the $800 if you match with another $800 of your own money.

La Crosse city planner, Tim Acklin says, "In some cases the money that they've gotten was to pay for just a dumpster."

The city will be mailing out information for people this summer.
