Minnesota Hunter Pleads Guilty To Lying About Killing A Wisconsin Bear

A Minnesota hunter has agreed to plead guilty to lying to a federal agent about where he killed a bear in Wisconsin.
Court documents filed in Madison on Tuesday say 48-year-old Walter Palmer of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, has agreed to plead guilty to one count of making material false statements. He could face up to five years in prison when sentenced in June.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Madison says Palmer shot a black bear in September 2006 in Price County -- about 40 miles outside the zone where he was licensed to hunt.
Prosecutors say a U.S. Fish and Wildlife agent interviewed Palmer about a month later, and Palmer falsely said he shot the bear in the correct zone.
