MANITOWISH WATERS, Wis. (AP) -- A small fire caused smoke damage on the set of the Johnny Depp movie "Public Enemies" being filmed at a historic Manitowish Waters resort.
Manitowish Waters fire officials say the electrical fire caused smoke damage to the second floor of the Little Bohemia Resort, where Universal Studios is shooting scenes for the 1930s-era gangster film. Depp plays bank robber John Dillinger.
The Vilas County Sheriff's Department says private security guards spotted sparks coming from an upper room at the restaurant about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday and called 911. The sheriff's department says the fire was apparently caused by a faulty lighting prop and damage was limited to one room and a ceiling area.
Former Little Bohemia owner Emil Wanatka says Universal and Depp were filming the famous shootout at the resort Tuesday on the 74th anniversary of the actual event. That's when the FBI surrounded Little Bohemia and began firing, believing Dillinger was inside. Dillinger and his gang escaped.
