There's a delay in repairs to the McCleary Bridge at Wausau.

State Department of Transportation project development supervisor Matt Bronson says a 13-foot girder weighing about 130,000 pounds dropped into the Rib River yesterday.

He says the girder tipped and fell from its hydraulic jacks while crews were positioning it atop bridge supports.

He says nobody was injured in the incident.

The bridge was closed to motorists when the accident occurred, and it reopened to two lanes of traffic later in the afternoon.

The bridge beam lies broken and can be seen sticking out of the water from Rib Mountain Drive.

Brown says crews plan to retrieve the beam from the river Monday when the bridge again will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The DOT has restricted the bridge to one lane in each direction since October 5th.

Bronson says he's not sure of what impact the incident will have on the scheduled reopening of all four lanes of the bridge, which has been scheduled for late June.
