Same-sex Schools

A Wisconsin legislator wants public schools to have the option of becoming all-boy or all-girl schools. They could also remain co-ed but have all-boy or all-girl classrooms.
He says public schools should be allowed to offer single-gender programs without fearing a discrimination lawsuit.
Schools would still have to provide equal opportunities for both genders.
Supporters say separating classrooms by gender lets teachers take advantage of different learning strengths.
Critics argue kids need to prepare for diverse colleges and workplaces, and separating kids by gender is too much like separating kids by race.
The bill passed in the Assembly and now moves to the state Senate.
