A confirmed case of measles has turned up in Vernon County.

The measles case was confirmed Wednesday afternoon in Viroqua. Health Officer Elizabeth Johnson says measles is a highly contagious disease and is the most deadly one for children.

The Center for Disease Control says measles is spread by droplets or direct contact with nasal or throat secretions of infected persons.

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department says there are no cases in Eau Claire County. The state did notify the department and it sent information to the medical community.
