A woman who worked for the Eau Claire police department for at least 10 years has resigned after she was caught stealing money from a soda fund.
Chief Jerry Matysik says 38-year-old Leanne Doelle-Kent admitted to stealing about $1,100 from the department. Matysik says Doelle-Kent was responsible for paying the local Coca-Cola distributor every month to fill the soda machines.
The chief says 3 to 4 cents from each can goes into a fund that's used for throwing parties for people who leave and flowers for a death in the family of department employees. Matysik says Doelle-Kent stopped paying Coca-Cola and the company contacted the department when it couldn't reach her.
The chief says Doelle-Kent voluntarily resigned, and has since paid back the money. The case has been forwarded to the district attorney. Matysik says it is up to the district attorney to decide if charges should be filed.
