On October second, the chapter will hold a pancake breakfast, where they also hope to take 100 kids between ages 8 and 18 up in their planes with a qualified pilot, even letting them take control of the planes for a while.
"We generally have a pancake breakfast every October," said Mike Pope, President of the EAA's Chapter 509. "We decided with what's going on down south, we needed to help out a little bit."
The pilots will be donating their time and fuel to the effort, which is part of the Young Eagles Program; a chance for kids to learn about aviation and maybe even spark lifelong intrest in it.
