The Mifflin Street block party in Madison was more than just a good time for some party-goers.
It was a chance to remember the life of Brittany Zimmermann.
A special fundraiser was held in her honor.
More than $300 from a local firefighters' union went to the Dollars for Brittany Scholarship Fund as friends of Zimmermann kicked off fundraising during Saturday’s Mifflin Street block party.
One month later, the 21-year-old's tragic murder is still fresh on everyone's minds.
Jenna Krassel, Brittany’s best friend says, "I just thought it was a good idea to bring awareness to it and just also help people remember to be safe."
The fundraiser was held right in the midst of the block party, now in its 40th year, as UW students crowded the streets enjoying the annual celebration.
Donator says, "We were just walking around checking it out taking pictures with random people, and it's pretty fun."
And while many are enjoying what Mifflin Street has to offer, others are not forgetting to give back and keep the memory of Brittany Zimmermann alive.
Donator says, "I saw that it was for Brittany Zimmermann and I was always concerned about that and I just wanted to get a piece of pizza because I was kind of hungry looking for food."
The money all goes to a scholarship fund for incoming UW students and the many pastries and pizza were donated by local businesses.
So far $13 hundred has been raised and those in charge are thankful Brittany’s story can benefit the life of someone else."
Jenna Krassel says, "It's really been overwhelming, even when people haven't been hungry they've been donating just money towards the fund. It's been very helpful, everybody helping us out."
Brittany's friends and family hope to raise $25,000 for the scholarship.
You can make a donation through the Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union.
