MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Stoughton woman is sentenced to four years in prison for fracturing her toddler's skull by repeatedly slamming the child's head on the floor.

Twenty-two-year-old Heather Lewis also faces charges in Jefferson County where she's accused of shaking another daughter on two occasions while living in Fort Atkinson late in 2006 and early in 2007.

In Dane County, Lewis had pleaded no contest to causing great bodily harm by child abuse.

A criminal complaint says Lewis told police that she became angry while trying to pose her 2-year-old daughter on the sofa for a photo in May 2007. The complaint says Lewis pushed the girl onto the floor and slammed her head three or four times. She didn't seek medical treatment for the toddler for two days.

We can hope that this child is now with a family who will love her and keep her safe. Four years is a joke. This was her second offense as if one time wasn't enough.
