Chippewa County Deputy Jason Zunker and Officer Jackie Ryden from the Prescott Police Department are being recognized.
Zunker and Ryden are being honored on the Law Enforcement Memorial in Madison. It's the 18th year fallen officers have been recognized on the capitol's lawn.
Chippewa County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Zunker died in January when he was assisting at the scene of a crash on Highway 53.
Friday he, along with Ryden were remembered for their sacrifice by law enforcement officers from all over the state, as well as the governor.
Doyle: "Today we recognize that, within the realm of public service, there are those who’s jobs mean risking their lives for the greater good. And we are honoring three men today who made a commitment to public safety and service above self. In the end, they gave to these ideals, the ultimate sacrifice.”
The stone memorial honoring all of the fallen officers surrounds a flower garden.
Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says it's a breath-taking sight for everyone in the state to admire.
Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen reminded everyone of the importance of those men and women.
Van Hollen: "Without laws, we all know there will be no liberty; however, one thing that is evidently clear: without law enforcement, there is no law."
And he says hopefully no more names will be added to the list.
Van Hollen: “To honor those three individuals, who’s names we add this year, and whom we all could hope and pray are the last names that would be ever added to this memorial.”
Organizers say more than 245 law enforcement officers have died in the state since 1844.
