The United States' first Director of Homeland Security spent Tuesday in Eau Claire. Tom Ridge spoke to community supporters of the Boys and Girls Club at a dinner hosted by the organization.
Ridge toured the year-old facility in Eau Claire during the afternoon.
He said his plan was to touch upon America's efforts to defeat terrorism during his speech.
"We've made a lot of progress and we've got a long way to go," Ridge said, "But I'm also gonna talk about my experience as Governor and someone who took advantage of Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, and other youth-based organizations and encourage those in attendance and in the community to continue to support it."
Local directors of the organization say they'd fill the facility with kids if they could find a way to get many of them to and from the building.
Ridge thinks that problem can be fixed with added support.
