The Taylor County Sheriff held a news conference Tuesday morning regarding the murder of a Medford mother who's remains were found in the Flambeau River State Forest.
Jean Viken's body was found over the weekend in the woods northeast of Hawkins.
Jean Viken disappeared January 29, and her van was found February 6 in dense woods in nearby Sawyer County.
The Taylor County Sheriff now says investigators found two things in her home that made them suspicious right from the start.
Analysts say someone likely shot the mother of four to death.
The Taylor County Medical Examiner says 39-year-old Jean Viken had more than one gunshot wound and was shot at least once in the chest.
Tuesday the sheriff revealed why deputies called in more investigators when they first discovered Jean was missing.
Daniels: "On arrival officers noted there was a pan that appeared to have been cooking for a lengthy period of time and the purse that Jean Viken normally took with her everywhere was also in the house."
Daniels says there are multiple persons of interest in the case, but has not arrested anyone. The sheriff also told us Viken's children are with their father. Court records show Jean Viken filed for divorce in the fall of 2007. Her husband, Duane Viken, has not returned our phonecalls.
