Local post-masters are reminding people to keep their dog tied up.

Eau Claire Postmaster Susan McInnis says 70 percent of the nearly 5 million people bitten by a dog last year in the country happened on the owner's property.

She says dog owners are liable for the behavior of their dogs when someone comes on their property and owners could face legal or insurance issues, and worse, the dog could be euthanized.

She asks that pet owners keep their dogs in a fenced in area, inside your home or on a secure leash.

We shouldn't have to remind people to do this but we do. If you are a pet owner, please be responsible.
