It was a battle for bragging rights Sunday at Carson Park, as a group of Eau Claire Firefighters took on the Green Bay Packers in a game of softball.
The fans had their picks before the game even started.
"The Packers!” said several fans.
Well maybe...
"The Gr..., The Eau Claire Firefighters are going to win,” said ECFD Player Jeff Dykes.
"Well cause we're Packer fans. The firefighters we always cheer for them because they help us. Of course, we got to cheer for the Packers,” said one fan.
But the real reason behind Sunday’s game was to support the men and women who fight the flames to keep people alive.
"One of our guys from Rice Lake plays with the Eau Claire team so we cam to see 'em play," said a Firefighter Fan.
Fans paid $15 a ticket to see the show down, with the money going to the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin.
"They use it for things like fire safety and training,” Dykes said.
And the firefighters say the softball game is a life experience they'll never forget.
"We get to see them behind the scenes, shake hands and see them in a very personal setting,” said Dykes.
So kids big and small cheered on their favorite players...
"Nick Collins. Ruvell Martin."
...and had some fun.
"Way too much fun,” said one fan.
The Packer players also stuck around after the game to sign some autographs.
