The Federal Aviation Administration has taken over full funding of the Eau Claire air traffic control tower.
When the tower opened in November of 2006, the airport had to fund almost a third of the staffing costs. Since then, the FAA determined a higher benefit-cost calculation for the tower.
Airport Manager Charity Speich says that's their way of figuring out how well having the tower up and running prevents things like damage or injuries.
Pilots have to contact the tower before getting within five miles of the airport or about a half mile above it.
