Wisconsin is already taking steps to prevent avian influenza -- or bird flu -- if the disease is found in the United States.
Officials say places like Jennie-O Turkey Store near Barron already does a large amount of testing though the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
Egg producer Daybreak Foods also helped by participating in a disease outbreak exercise for emergency response with local county agencies and the state agricultural department in September.
Other states -- like Iowa -- have surveillance programs in place when poultry is slaughtered.
