The first approval for a new academics building for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was given last week by the state.
The State Building Commission agreed with development plans and design concepts for a 33 million dollar building to be used by several departments for lecture classes.
University officials say the next step is for the building to be included in the state's 2007-09 biennial budget.
The planning phase for the structure will cost $726,000.
If approved, it would be the first new academic building for the university in more than 30 years when Wimberly Hall was built in 1974.
