The State Patrol says an on-duty Monroe County sheriff's deputy hit a Fort Atkinson man with the side mirror of a squad car.

It happened Monday on State Highway 27 just south of County Road X near Sparta.

Troopers say the 31-year-old man was walking south in a traffic lane of the highway with his back to traffic.

They say the deputy tried to avoid the man, but ended up hitting him.

He went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The deputy wasn't hurt.

There is not much to figure, Jolly Bob. The deputy was in a car, and the person struck (by the mirror)was a pedestrian. I guess it is pretty easy to figure the deputy did not suffer much injury. Accidents like that DO happen, even to Deputy Sheriff's. We should feel VERY fortunate for the service they provide to us. THANKS to them!!!
