Eau Claire Metro Unemployment Rate Continues Decline

Unemployment rates dropped in all 12 of Wisconsin's metropolitan areas in September compared with the previous month. The Eau Claire- Chippewa Falls Metro unemployment rate fell from 3.9% in August to 3.6% in September. The numbers, however, were not seasonally adjusted. Government employment in the two-county metro area stands at 11,500, which is 300 fewer than a year ago.

State officials say the state normally goes through a transition period in September and the unemployment rates drop. That's due to a number of factors. They include students leaving the work force to go back to school.

The unemployment rate is a survey that compares the number of people looking for jobs with those who are employed.

Madison's unemployment rate of just below 3% was the lowest rate among metro areas in Wisconsin.

Racine had the highest rate at just more than 5%.

The state's unemployment rate was four percent in September. That's down slightly from the month before.
