Waupun Tavern Could Lose Liquor License After Death Of Customer

The city of Waupun wants to revoke the license of a tavern where a man celebrating his 21st birthday drank to excess and later died.

Jessie Drews died of alcohol poisoning after drinking at The Slammer last March 23.

The Dodge County medical examiner found Drews' blood alcohol level was .332 -- more than four times the legal limit of intoxication. Drews died at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

Police Chief Dale Heeringa says the city plans to meet with the owner to ask her to surrender the liquor license. Heeringa says he's contacted the Fond du Lac County district attorney to explore possible criminal charges.

The liquor license expires July 1
