Sacred Heart Hospital Rates Increase 7 Percent

An Eau Claire hospital says it will start increasing its rates by more than 7% this summer.

Sacred Heart hospital says the rate increase of 7.3% takes effect in July.

A spokesperson from the hospital says July is the start of the hospital's 2009 fiscal year. The hospital says the increase makes up for inadequate Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement.

Last July, the hospital raised its rates by 8%.

Price increase...yet the hospital continues to MAKE money...it IS supposed to be non-profit. SHH tries to cut costs for themselves but doesn't seem to be able to pass this on to their patients. Patients are sicker than ever, the nurse/patient ratio is higher than ever before, meaning patients aren't getting the care they once did...yet it's going to cost them more. Maybe SHH should have fewer "chiefs" having endless meetings that get no where, hiring expensive (and not experienced) consultants to come and tell them how to improve the hospital when SHH could simply LISTEN to their employees to find out how to improve things. Saving on some of those things could allow better staffing for patients, resulting in much safer care and would be a cost saver as well.
