Man Confesses to Killing Madison Woman in Mexico

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico (AP) -- Police in Puerto Vallarta are holding a Mexican man they say confessed to killing an American.

They say Francisco Javier Hollos stabbed the American early Monday because she refused to pay for sex.

Felicia Melton-Smyth was a well-known gay rights activist from Madison, Wisconsin. A Web site set up in her name says she was on vacation at the Brisas del Mar hotel.

State prosecutor's official Guillermo Martin Diaz described the confession on Tuesday.

The U.S. Consulate in Puerto Vallarta did not return a message from The Associated Press seeking comment.
