CFPD May Get New Fingerprint System

Suspects will no longer need to get their hands dirty if the Chippewa Falls Police Department gets a grant this week.

The grant would be used to buy what's called a live scan fingerprint system.

Right now, the police department still takes fingerprints using ink.
With a live scan, suspects would place each of their fingers on a monitor which captures electronic images of the fingerprints. The images are then sent electronically to whatever agency needs them.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department already uses the live scan system.
