Watch Out For Turtles

The DNR is asking you to help preserve Turtles.

Its turtle-nesting time and the DNR says drivers are hitting and killing turtles that are trying to find a nesting place.

The DNR says when people hit blanding's turtles and wood turtles, it can be devastating because it takes 20 years for the females to reach breeding age, and killing them sets the turtles back decades. The DNR says if you see a turtle in your path, avoid hitting it, but do so with safety in mind.

If you need to help a snapping turtle, the DNR says drag it by its tail, and let it bite a stick while you move it.
