Biologists have an aggressive plan in the works for reducing the amount of invasive plants and clearing the water in Half Moon Lake.

This Spring, the DNR, in partnership with the city of Eau Claire and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will begin a three-year program of chemical treatments to eliminate curly-leaf pondweed.

The process will not harm native plants or fish in the lake, but the DNR says it is necessary for biologists to survey existing plant densities before treatments begin in the Spring of 2009. The DNR says that means things will likely get worse before they get better, and is asking fisherman and boaters to be patient through the process.
