The Stillwater Lift Bridge is expected to reopen Tuesday -- to the relief of some commuters on both sides of the St. Croix River.
The bridge was closed for about three months for major repair work.
The closure doubled commute time for some workers and forced many to pay more for gasoline.
Stillwater Mayor Jay Kimble says many residents in Wisconsin towns such as Houlton depend on business and social links across the river. He says people cross the river for groceries, gasoline and church.
But some merchants in downtown Stillwater say they didn't miss the traffic congestion that usually results from motorists crossing the bridge.
An estimated 16-thousand drivers are expected to drive over the refurbished bridge after it reopens.
