Two-Way Democratic Primary Set For Wisconsin Attorney General

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced Monday that she's running for attorney general against incumbent Peg Lautenschlager.

Falk and Lautenschlager are both Democrats. Some party members think Lautenschlager is vulnerable because of her drunken driving arrest in 2004.

Falk did not mention Lautenschlager in her prepared remarks during a news conference in Madison. When asked later whether Lautenschlager's arrest spurred her to run, Falk said it's an issue Lautenschlager has to deal with.

When a reporter asked her if she herself had ever driven drunk, Falk replied "I don't know." When pressed, she said she had never driven "impaired."

Falk and Lautenschlager will square off in a Democratic primary in September 2006.
