Flooding creates nightmares all across Wisconsin as 30 counties are in a state of emergency.

Almost 10 inches of rain fell in parts of Vernon County, causing big problems for the second time in less than a year.

In downtown La Farge, the river crested at more than five feet over the flood stage. A person living in town says about one quarter of the town is underwater. The National Weather Service says the Kickapoo River crested at 17.2 feet this morning, which is a record flood level.

The fire department started evacuating people on Saturday morning as the rainfall built up. At one point, Vernon County Emergency Management closed more than 100 roads and say damage will top $60 million. The DNR is flying over the area as well, monitoring 13 dams which could fail.

Meanwhile people in La Farge are busy cleaning up what they can and waiting for the water to go down so they can get to the rest of it. But more rain is expected this week and that could create more problems.

Vernon County Emergency Management has lifted some evacuation orders.
If you live below the dams, emergency leaders say you can now return home. But they say you should be careful and warn that a lot of roads are still closed.

The dams are:

Melby Dam -- Christiana
Ostrem Dam -- Clinton
Raaum Dam -- Viroqua
Thompson Dam -- Franklin
Eagles Park Dam -- Sterling
