A preliminary estimate shows Vernon County's public property now has $3.7 million in damage from recent storms and flooding.

Vernon County Emergency Management says Viola has $700,000 in damage, Clinton township has $400,000, Ontario reports $300,000, and La Farge $250,000. 14 communities have at least $100,000 in damage totals through the initial preliminary estimates. These totals do not include any damage to private property.

Vernon County leaders say its dams are holding up despite heavy rain throughout Thursday morning. Public Information Officer Linda Nederlo says areas west of Viroqua had received 2 inches of rain by 9 a.m. Thursday morning and rain was still falling. Crews are still working to repair the Yttri-Primmer Dam. Vernon County also estimates more than $5.5 million in crop damages.

FEMA teams are on the ground in Vernon County and are touring Viola, La Farge, and other communities throughout the day Thursday.
