Biologists say conditions are set up for fish disease outbreaks on lakes in Polk, Barron, Washburn, and Burnett counties over the next few weeks.
It comes from a bacteria commonly found in Wisconsin.
Bluegill, crappies, yellow perch and bullheads are the fish most affected by the columnaris bacteria.
The DNR says the bacteria should not be confused with the VHS virus, and is not harmful to people.
If you see large number of dead fish, you should contact your local DNR office.
