Hunter Shot to Death During Opening Day

A 66-year-old deer hunter is dead after being accidentally shot by someone in his hunting party today in northwestern Wisconsin.

Department of Natural Resources spokesman Bob Manwell says all he knows that the accident happened in Burnett County and it involved someone in the same hunting party.

The county sheriff's department says it happened at about two-30 this afternoon in the Township of Webb Lake.

Saturday was the opening day of the state's nine-day gun deer hunting season.

The D-N-R says more than 631,000 people received licenses to hunt the estimated one-point-five million white-tailed deer that roam the state.

Manwell says there was also a shooting in Grant County, where a juvenile hunter accidentally shot himself.
