It's now up to the Eau Claire County District Attorney's Office to decide if former Superintendent Bill Klaus broke the law.
The Eau Claire Police Department just finished its criminal investigation into a contract dispute between Klaus and the district, and handed it over to the DA’s office.
White says he'll review the reports from the Police Department and could make a decision by next week.
White says it's important to remember his office won't look at School District policy, just at the question of whether anything illegal was done.
Rich White says, "We'll address exactly and specifically whether there's any criminal matters here to be pursued. If not, our work will be completed."
In April, White forwarded a complaint about possible fraud to the Police Department so it could investigate.
This stems from an incident where Eau Claire School Board Members say a document was created and backdated that would have allowed Klaus to receive his retirement stipends earlier than expected.
But no money was ever paid out to Klaus.
Rich White says, "In a case like this there was a question of documents, and how those documents were executed, and what authority they were executed and that is the sort of thing that is potentially a criminal matter."
In a separate investigation, the Eau Claire School Board will meet on Monday night.
It's the ninth time members will meet in closed session.
School Board President Carol Craig says she understands this has been a long process for the community.
Carol Craig says, "It impacts the public, both from a financial point of view, and from a public support point of view."
Craig says the Board is trying to figure out if anyone violated School District policy and the procedures in place in terms of employment contracts.
One Board Member tells us there likely won't be a resolution to the controversy of a decision about Bill Klaus' future at Monday’s meeting.
