EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Wednesday, Wal-Mart made a surprise visit to North Star Middle School in Eau Claire.
20 teachers at North Star received $50 gift cards to Wal-Mart to help pay for needed school supplies for their classes.
Each year, for the last five years, Wal-Mart picks a school in the area to give the gift cards to as a part of their teacher rewards program.
This year North Star was chosen.
Wal-Mart representatives say they are just helping out with the basic needs of the classroom.
"We know that teachers no a days, with cuts backs, teachers are digging into their own pockets to make sure our kids are being educated properly," Wal-Mart's Vision Center manager, Pam Thomasson said. "And that's the goal of the program is, you know, to either give them basic school supplies or healthy snacks to make it through the day."
She also says since they don't think it was fair for only 20 teachers to win, they brought along two large bins for the rest to share. One full of basic school supplies, and the other with healthy snacks.
