Marquardt Could Stand Trial

The Wisconsin Supreme Court says search warrant evidence challenged by the defense can be used against a Chippewa County man accused of killing his mother more than five years ago.
The decision raises the chances that Bill Marquardt, 29, will stand trial for the slaying of his mother at her home in Jim Falls in March, 2000.
Previous court proceedings determined that Marquardt suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
Meanwhile, a jury in Eau Claire County found Marquardt guilty two years ago of animal cruelty. Prosecutors conceded he was mentally ill, and he was sentenced to 75 years in a mental institution.
