An on-base hotel and recreation center is moving forward at Fort McCoy.

Fort McCoy public affairs officer Linda Fournier says the Sparta Chamber and City Council approved it this week.

Tomah's chamber and city council supported the idea earlier this spring.

Fournier says Fort McCoy wants a storage, lodging and recreation facility on base, and it would be built and paid for by the developer who wins the bidding process.

The developer would lease the land from the government.

Fournier says it could take a year before any construction starts.
