Wisconsin's Low Income Residents May Be Stopped From Attending UW System

The president of the University of Wisconsin System says the rising price of tuition is keeping more low-income students from attending the UW.

Kevin Reilly says they're simply being priced out, and he wants to do something about it.

He tells the Board of Regents that he'll be back sometime next year with clearer options about what to do.

He's urging the regents to "think big" to find ways to improve access through creative tuition and financial aid programs.

Those options could include paying all costs for low-income students who agree to work during college.

Others could be substantially increasing state grants for financial aid or forgiving loans to students who agree to stay in Wisconsin after graduation.
